Average (Actual Duration) on Reports

Hi,

I have a "text-multiple choice" field with drop down options "revise, reuse, modify, new". I am pulling up a report grouped based on the above options. The report shows up only the "total" of the "Actual Duration" for each group. Is there a way, I can make the report to show "averages" instead of "total" on the "Actual Duration". See screen shot:

The report customization gives me only option to "hide all total/averages" (and, not to show "averages")

I would like to see the result of on an average how many days it takes to finish a "new or revised, or modify" project.

Please help. Thanks.
  • Easy,
Edit the field properties for Actual Duration to uncheck show Totals and to check off To show Averages.

The "Actual Duration" is a "numeric-formula field" to show actual days that it took to finish the project from start to complete. And, I don't see the option you are saying in the field properties, Mark.
  • Hi Kingsly,

It might seem a bit counter-intuitive when you are on a report but that option to show an Average or a Total is controlled on the field settings. If you open up the field settings for Actual Duration under the display options you will find the checkbox to 'Display an average of this field in reports'. Enabling this will cause the averages to show on report, then you can also disable the Totals if  you would like. I hope this information is helpful.

Just wondering, is there a better format of report (not a table, but a chart of some type) would help me display it better? Any thoughts.
  • I would try a line chart first and use the group as the series. The x would Bev the date grouped by month or by week. The y would be the duration as an Average.
