Yes, but you will need to export a spreadsheet of enough columns to identify the record along with the [Record ID#] field.
The using vlookup in excel or some other method, create an excel sheet with the Record ID# field and that new data element (filed). When you import and include the [Record ID#] field it will update existing records and not duplicate them. Be care not to import blanks into an existing fields as that would overwrite existing data to blank. The safest way is to just import the [Record ID#] field and the new column(s).
