If I change the list of drop-down value selections in a field, will historical records with values that are no longer offered in the list be preserved? I'd like to change the available values for my team, and then go into the table and do a batch edit to change all of the historical records.
Yes, they should be preserved (though if you were to edit the record and try to select an option, the current option would now be shown in red text).
However, any time I am not sure I either:
a) Export to spreadsheet the record ID and column in question, so if anything goes wrong I can quickly re-import the data.
b) Duplicate the field and call it 'temp backup'. Once I am sure I have everything right with the original field, delete my temp backup field.
