Download report via button and automatically add to attachment field

I have a button on one of our 'RFP' forms which downloads a report as csv.  I'm hoping to create a similar button that, instead of downloading the report to my local computer, takes the report and places it an attachment field.  Has anyone done anything like this before?  Other approaches to do something similar are also welcome.
