Export/Import table during time app/table is being used

We have a need to export our entire table in order to sort and schedule large quantities (100+) of records for our routing on a daily basis in the spring. This is done by taking the full export into Excel, which allows us then to split the screen so we can look at customers who are need a date along with those who have dates.  Then these 100 records (out of approx 6000) are updated with new dates etc.

At any rate, my question is this:  If the table is being used for the business during the time we are working on the exported copy, will the changed records in this "current" database (that were updated/changed during course of business, not the ones that were exported and updated) remain "updated/changed" when the copy that was exported and is then imported back in?  Or will they be the same as when they were exported and then imported (since they were not changed during the Excel data work). Hope this makes sense...  Thx, Mark
  • When you import from Excel and update existing records, that dataset will become the new source of truth for all columns you choose to import.

My suggestion is what while you may need to export all columns in order to see the complete information in excel, you should only import columns which which you plan to edit, for example those date columns.

You also may want to consider if there is a strong reason for doing these updates outside of Quick Base.  Perhaps with some effort to develop some new Quick Base reports and using grid edit you can do the updates without the Excel export import.
  • Thanks for your reply.  Your first suggestion looks like the best for my solution.    -Mark
