Filtering related table information

I have a table (Audit/Survey Types) that has three types of activities (audit, survey, DD) and each activity has two or more named sub-activities (i.e. management audit and vessel audit are both tagged as "audit")

On my related table, I want to be able to have a dropdown that references my three types of activities from the "Audit/Survey Types" table, and when the user clicks on the type (audit, survey or DD), they would only see the two or three sub-activities available for that type.

What I'm currently seeing is the list of the 10 or so total items from my "Audit/Survey Types" table, or when I try to change the lookup, audit is listed twice, survey is listed twice, etc.

How can I fix this?

  • The is a typical Conditional Drop Down (CDD) situation.

Just go to the field for [Related sub-activity] and look fo the check box for

Conditional    The values in this field depend on a selection in another field

Then set that so once you choose a Type, then limit the sub-activities to that Type.
