Form behavior after clicking on field in report

I have a report :)

It appears that when I click on a field the form displays view-only and I need to 'edit' to get the form to allow input.  Correct?  Any way to get the form to be in edit mode when clicking on a field or only via the pencil?

I have a Dynamic Form Rule that should be setting a field to a value when the form is being accessed by a specific Role.  When does this Dynamic Form Rule happen?  On form display or form Save & close?  I am having a hard time (ie, being unsuccessful) getting the Role rule to update the field.

If I want some fields to be read-only for a specific Role, is Dynamic Form Rules the appropriate way to set fields as read-only or read-write based on Role?

What order are Dynamic Form Rules applied?  Ie, if I happen to have two Dynamic Form Rules that may conflict with each other, which one takes precedence?  The Rule closer to the top of the list or vice versa?

  • I even disabled grid edit for the report and still can't get the Role Dynamic Rule Form to be applied (to Save the record with a field equal to a specific value from the drop down list).

  • On regular table reports you have the convenience of you in the record if you click  anywhere that is not a hyperlink on the row on the report.   Very soon we will all be moved to the new beta table report experience and because of future plans they have you will only be able to view the record using the eyeball.    The reason for that is future plans they have to allow what is called in line editing. That means editing while in view mode.

Dynamic form rules do you work in view mode when it comes to hiding and showing fields or sections.    However form rules which edit and change fields on the form only fire when in edit mode on the form.

Yes dynamic form rules are an excellent method of controlling the user experience based on the role of the user.

All of the rules on the form will fire and it is not so much the sequence that they fire him but they all fire. If you have conflicts in your rules there will be a pink pop up and you really should resolve any foreign rule conflict that's a result will not really be predictable if you have conflicting formulas. But if they are in conflict they will tell you when you are editing the form.

I am really confused by what I am seeing.

      Report displays what I want.

If I click the 'eye' for a row, I get the form but only see things, no ability to update.  At the top left...  Tickets > Ticket #1878.

If I click the 'pen' (pencil) to edit I see Tickets > Edit Ticket #1878 . There are fields I can change.  I see the one field I want to set as a value as 'editable' with the drop down list but I make no changes to this field (so it looks like I need to get a Dynamic Form Rule for it to be read-only for this Role).  This field is in the Ticket table.  When I update one of the other fields and then Save & close, the field I do edit does get saved with the edit.

The field with the Dynamic Form Rule which says when the Role is the role being tested set the field to a specific value in the drop down list.  Why is this field not getting updated.  From everything I've read and what you said, it should be, correct?

I'm not I fully understand the question, but there is a checkbox at the bottom where you can set it to fire all the time, try looking for that checkbox.
