    You have not stated if you have any relationships. 

    But if you have a relationship where One Scheduled Course Class has Many Participants, you can make a Summary on that Relationship to count the number of Participants. but out a filter on that Summary field 
    where Category os not Teacher.

    Thank you for your direction. I can count participant using summary field with filtering category does not contain the value teacher
