How can I make a field editable every time a record is opened, even in view mode?

I want a field to be editable in the view mode also, so that the viewer can select a value from the drop down value, based on which a certain section of the form will be visible or invisible.

This is the most preposterous thing I heard all day.  Go ahead and just click on the [Text] field and start typing - your changes will be updated to the record without further navigation.
