How to make a child form return to a specific step in the parent form

I have an application that the user creates child records in step 3 of the parent form.  After the child records are created and saved it returns the user back to the parent form at step 1.  Is it possible to change this so that when the child record is saved it returns the user back to step 3 of the parent form?
