I am in UK, and I want to remove the US style formatting of the telephone numbers, ie remove brackets.

Could you just use a text field and call it Phone Number? I'm actually not sure if it's possible to change the formatting, but using a text field could accomplish your goal.

Sorry to say but this is one of the reasons I sometimes dis-like US-based tools. There is no understanding what happens outside the US
