Is there anyway to select the record with the latest date of the group and show it in a report?

I have a set of records that have a date field and are part of different groups. Is there anyway to select the record with the latest date of the group and show it in a report? So instead of 12 groups with 10 records each. I only see 12 groups with 1 record each.
