Limiting Drop Down Options on a Lookup Field

How do I limit a drop down per certain criteria on a lookup field? We have an Employees Table with a column for Employee Name and a column for Status (Current or Former).  At the moment when I create...

No problem.  On the table of employees make a a Report called perhaps active employee drop down list.

Then set the form to use that report for the drop down on that field where you are choosing the employee.
