Native solution to populate fields by scanning a barcode

Scenario:
I have a paper work order that has 2 barcodes.
Barcode A = the Work Order #
Barcode B = the Assembly Part number

Solution:
Ability to click the "Work Order" field in my QB form or grid edit (preferred), scan barcode, and work order auto-populates the field. Same with the Assembly part number field.

Is this possible? what field type would I need?
I am trying to avoid using 3rd party services since this is not a critical to the company app, but more of an organization tool for our supervisors.

  • If you use what I believe is called a wedge scanner, it is just a device which "wedges" in between the keyboard and the PC.  It simply adds another way to do data entry and the PC (and hence Quick Base) thinks that you have typed the characters that the scanner scans.

So the fields are just normal fields as if you were going to type the data on a keyboard.
