Need Help Building Pipeline for Equipment Tracking

Hi! I'm new to Quickbase and to Pipelines. I've looked through the pipeline documentation, but couldn't figure this out. Can this be done in Pipelines? Do I need to learn JSON to be able to create this? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Scenario - Technicians in the field install or remove dozens of pieces of equipment for a project. Technician writes one record to [Project Equipment] with the quantity for each type of equipment installed, pipeline creates individual records for each piece of equipment with start date in [Equipment Transactions]. When equipment is removed, pipeline modifies records end date in [Equipment Transactions].
