Need help to make a comment mandatory when a date is changed

Hi folks.  I need your help. I am trying to have users add a comment whenever any of the dates in a record change. Currently, the comments field is not required but if a user changes a date, I would like the date field to change to required so that a comment must be entered.  I tried using  Actions and Automations but those processes don't seem to allow that. Any help would be appreciated.  And fyi...I'm not well versed in QB but sometimes accidently figure out how to do things so I apologize in advance if I don't understand your answers and ask for more information.

Thank you!

  • This question has been asked before on the forum and there's actually not an easy answer to it.

But I just thought of an easy answer.

Make the user put in the comment first and then when they have a comment have a form rule to make the date fields editable.

The user will have to tab out of the comment field in order for QuickBase to see the data entry and allow the form rule to fire.

So you would have to have some instructions on the screen to tell the user if they want to edit the dates they first have to give the comment reason and tab out of the field and then the date field(s) will become editable.
