Quickbase has exceptional performance for large data sets and a great user experience when Conditional Drop Downs are used.
But you are asking for a multi select filter on those drop downs and that functionality does not exists.
Would you consider say offering the user several of those drop downs, where the user could select a single drop down filter and then a single result, and then have a formula to combine all of their separate selections into one multi select formula field?

HI Mark, is this possible? Could a user select a single value (One Main Group) from one dropdown and have that list populate another dropdown with the appropriate Sub-Groups that go with that Main group? However, in this second dropdown list could they select multiples from just this sub-group list?

No, that is not be behaviour of a drop down field off a relationship. It does not allow for multi select.
