Report Initial Filters

When I go into a report to change filters such as: Date Modified is On or after 100 days in the past by changing the
"Select a field.." option it resets the conditions and anything in the last input field.

For example:

Customer Name "Contains" John. (initial)
change this by changing the field "Customer Name" to another field Customer Contact.  The result is that the Contains is reset to "is equal to" and the input field that was John is now blank.

With more complicated filters I have to take a screenshot and then basically redo entire filter blocks.

Is this the intended operation of the report filters?

I understand what you mean and have been frustrated by this in the past when I am updating a report to new filters and forgot what was in there previously. When switching it you can sometimes forget and end up with a different report than you intended. This is rarely an issue for me though as I try and "Set it and forget it" with reports the best I can.

If you are finding yourself always needing to update some of these reports to see different things then either you need to use more reports or you should make use of the <ask the user> function more. You can even do this while having multiple fields like you mentioned where Customer Name would be blank but they enter John into Customer Contact instead and it filters for that.

I agree with Austin in that yes this is the expected behavior, and its not a bug but it is very frustrating and can 'bite' you from time to time if you are not right on your toes.  I have had situations where I am editing a complex set of filters and have to bail out before saving because I realized I just lost  the information as to how the previous filter was set, so I had to stat over and pay closer attention.

        Jeff,

On many more than one occasion....

So as a "rule" I now edit the filters and Display the report, I do not Save it until I have got everything fleshed out.
