Yes, I went with the checkbox idea. After thinking about it further, it was actually a good solution for my need and it works beautifully. There may be a simpler route, but once I really digested what I wanted the user's workflow to be, it's perfectly fine.
Yes, I tried looking for 'user field not blank' but that option didn't seem to exist. That's what threw me for a loop in the first place. In the rules, choosing a user field and stipulating 'not blank' simply didn't exist as an option.

6 years agoWhen I have wanted to compare a user field to blank, I actually make a formula user field called [Null user] and just leave the formula empty. Then the form rules have something to hook on to.
