Swapping fields in bulk

Good afternoon,

Is there a way to swap a field for another, in bulk, across an app? Like a "find and replace" but for a field. Thanks for your help!

  • What specifically? The field names, field type, the data contained within the field itself?  There is the feature to Search and Replace in Schema that is like a schema find and replace for things like names or terms that might appear in fields or forms - but that isn't targeting data if you're attempting to swap out data values inside of fields themselves.

The entire field itself. I changed the key field in a table to another one and want to replace that field in all the reports the old one was used in. So really swapping a field for another.

Not that I know. If the 'old' field that you're using isn't going to be used anymore, you could consider converting it to a formula - and just copying the value of the new field for reporting purposes only. So for example if you have 'Old Key' and 'New Key' - if you're planning on just getting rid of old key - set it to formula-text or numeric or whatever type it is and in the formula set it to the value of [New Key]. You can give it a nice looking name for reporting as well.
