Upload excel and update record

Is it possible to upload a pre-defined excel file to a record (.xlsm), which in turn populates specific fields in that record?

The scenario is that users utilise an excel template to create a complex valuation.  They now currently manually input into QB the outputs of that valuation into a child record on QB.  There is one spreadsheet per child record.

I have looked at some sort of CSV import routine and a separate upload of the file, but I cannot see how to initiate the CSV import from a form.  More crucially, I dont want to add the step of having to get the users to save as a CSV file.

The excel spreadsheet are currently stored in a complex file hierarchy on our servers so linking isnt plausible and in any event there would then be 1000's of links.

  • Yes its possible if the spreadsheets follow a consistent naming convention which contains a unique record identifier.  We have spreadsheets stored on Amazon S3 in buckets that are automatically pulled into quickbase records several times a day. We also have an import table that has saved import configurations (field mappings) so that even importing manually is very quick. Both solutions are third party add-ons from Juiced Technologies and we're very happy with them but I'm sure there are other providers who can do the work as well.
