User role permissions - limiting fields that can be edited

I've set a particular role, Vendor, to be able to edit records, because I want them to be able to click a button to mark a record as received, but not edit any other fields. I've gone in and edited the access to the records, to allow them to view or modify fields, but when they press edit, at the top of the page, they have access to edit fields that I have set to view only. What am I doing wrong?

If you have just now made these changes, end users would have to click the HOME button to reload their session to bring in the changes. Also, eventually, their I.E. will do a server request and what is stored in History will be overwritten. In my experience, I've had to request users either reload their session by clicking HOME, or have them clear Internet Explorer's History file, log out, log back in. This has been 'my' experience. Others may have had a different experience.
  • Do you know this because you're seeing it when you test as the Vendor role yourself, or are people reporting this to you?

Do the users have multiple roles assigned to them? If users have multiple roles, they could be in a role that gives them edit permission.

  • I was testing it with a vendor test account, but I switched over to MS Edge for my browser, cleared my history and it worked just fine. Thanks for the help!

Chris, you've been my savior today! I appreciate it!
