Who picked this new ugly font?

Guys, seriously.  Is QB on a speed-run to ruin the platform as fast as possible?  I wake up today, and have dozens of complaints from users on the new system font that is harder to read that the previous one.

Seriously, what was the point of this change?

I’ve been using the new layout for a few days now and wanted to share some observations.

Some of the legacy forms that previously fit comfortably on a single page now require horizontal scrolling because the column spacing has increased significantly. This makes them a bit harder to work with than before.

The email table, in particular, has become much more difficult to navigate. The increased row spacing, combined with the lack of row coloring, grouping, filtering, sorting, or customization options, makes it challenging to review or manage a long list of emails. Without tags, descriptions, or adjustable visible columns, it’s hard to quickly understand what types of emails are on the table or locate specific items efficiently.

Like others have mentioned, I don’t recall seeing advance notice about these changes. While most of the updates are manageable, the expanded spacing in list views—especially in areas without supporting sort or filter tools—has made everyday use noticeably less efficient.

Not only do these changes bother me, but they can confuse users.  Years of muscle memory down the drain, with zero benefit to a user/developer.

QB spends so much time talking about "Gray Work", while they literally create it themselves through terrible or unneeded UI changes.

Stop removing contrast, outlines, etc.  Stop making everything WHITE with 500px of padding.

  • I like it mostly. The Embedded reports are showing a lighter grey for un-editable fields that is on the edge of visible but doable. Mobile experience seems fine.
Dynamic form rules ever a problem.

Feel like Luke in the trash compactor in Star Wars here. That grey area used to be where rules could be viewed, now we get two rows?

Support says that the grey empty space at the bottom of Legacy Form rules will be fixed on a July release.

  • Thinner fonts are harder to read on large displays, and once again they've adding a ton of padding/white-space that no one asked for.

I honestly have no faith in the "lot of research went into this" point, as if that was true then half of the UI changes we've seen in all software in the past 15 years would not have happened.

Everyday it becomes harder to recommend QB to clients.

This comment right here speaks to my soul - I absolutely cannot stand the volume of wasted space everywhere now.  I need QB to stop treating desktop UI development and design the same as mobile.  It's not the same, and it never should be the same.

The entire point of desktop UI/UX is precision via mouse and keyboard.  There's no fat fingers involved in the hunting and pecking for elements, so there's no reason to design with such thicccccc padding around the padding of the padding around the border of the padding for the elements the way it's being done now.  This design motif is the whole reason why I refuse to entertain the idea of using new forms for any of my workflows.  Optimize desktop UI for desktop users again please.

Reply of the year right here.  I couldn't of said it better myself.  It's so bad that it has been an inside joke with dev buddies for year.

  • To be clear the font on old style forms has changed to something different. It's a blockier look. embedded reports grid edit has the color greyed to the point it is hard to read. This is if you are not into the dark mode. Someone made a decision.

Ha! I came here to see if anyone else had something to say. As the realization dawns on the customers that Quickbase has made a change to the UI without notification to its customers... did I miss this at Empower?

Personally I want to let it soak in a bit before having an opinion. I did hear from one person who is not pleased with change unannounced.

Hoping it doesn't affect our ability to get work done because that could be a problem.

Well, the font changes a surprise to me too, but from what I remember from all the way back to yesterday, the font seems a bit crisper and actually easier to read. so I think on balance it's an improvement.  I know the UI folks at Quickbase would have put a lot of research into this and probably at least some internal testing for feedback, so this was not a casual change.
