Why is Backing Up MAC to Windows on a USB not working?

Why can I not see any information other than the Tool Bar and all these little time-stamp icons that look like little hard drives on a MAC. It is a 2013 version of QuickBooks Pro MAC. On the PC version you open quick books and you have your home page and then you can select vendor, employee, customer, etc. and still see everything you need, however, with this MAC version we could not get any of this information to stay up. It would only allow us to write a check or enter a bill but not see the normal items one usually sees.

I was also trying to back up the information from a MAC to Windows onto a USB. It would not do it. It asked me to set up a password in order to protect the data, which I did, it would act like it was backing it up to the USB, but then it would say data could not be backed up.

Anyone have any suggestions.
