Hello Qrew, Thanks to all who were able to attend Tuesday’s App Builders Qrew Meetup. Here’s what we discussed: Secure Links for External Access Matt Burger shared how to create secure links that allow external users to access specific records without needing a Quickbase login. He also covered advanced features like setting access windows with start/end dates and a centralized control panel to reset all links regularly for enhanced security. Qrew Tip on Secure Links: Always include an expiration or reset mechanism in your access key formula so older links automatically become invalid whenever you update permissions. Access Keys + Real-Time Bulk Upserts Andrew Carbejal-Everts showcased the GetAccessKey() formula that extracts multiple parameters from the URL, maintains them across tables, and enables instant bulk record operations using Table-to-Table Import. To learn more about Andrew’s use case, he wrote a blog to accompany his use case for folks to follow along. Tip from Andrew: Use custom buttons and hide native Quickbase navigation in secure-link workflows to ensure the access key stays active as users navigate the app. Resources shared during the meetup: Secure links FAQ FAQ: What you can access with secure links Builder Program Link QBU: Quick HIIT - Secure Links Video QBU: Quick HIITS Secure Links Supplement PDF QBU: Common URL Parameters Supplement QBU: Quick HIITS Secure Links Presentation Missed this meeting? Hello App Builders Qrew! With Empower shifting our April schedule a week down, I wanted to make sure to post the agenda and to remind folks to use the events page as our Qrew Meet Ups source of truth. I will do more to communicate upcoming meet ups via the discussions page and emails, but we are no longer sending out calendar invites. Agenda for the App Builders Qrew Meet Up Tuesday April 15th at 12pm EST: Mark Shnier, owner and developer of Your Quickbase Coach, who will present some use cases solved with the User Focus Technique, including calculating distances between addresses and quickly assigning team members to a project. This session will include an app by Mark that will available in the exchange that you can download and apply what you learned from this session right away. Mark is 2024's Qrew Legend and an incredible presence in Qrew discussions. Living Images for Status (Minute 9:21) Prashant showed off dynamic “living images” using rich text formulas-visual status indicators that update in real time and can be referenced across tables, streamlining production meetings and status checks. ChatGPT for Formula Generation (Minute 12:43) Next, he walked through using ChatGPT to generate Quickbase rich text formulas for status indicators, enabling non-coders to create and tweak visual workflows fast. HTML Tables in Reports (Minute 17:05) Prashant also demonstrated embedding HTML tables in reports to consolidate multiple data points and images into a single, visually organized space-especially useful for image-heavy workflows. ChatGPT & Code Pages (Minute 38:35) Dwight Munson from Signa Health jumped in on the fly to share his experience using ChatGPT to build custom code pages with JavaScript in Quickbase. He noted it can take 30–40 iterations to get production-ready code, but it’s a great starting point for custom solutions. Missed the meeting? Hello App Builders Qrew! I have a question for you: How many folks currently have a Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) process at our Organization? If you do have an ALM process, do you use a Quickbase app to manage it or is it managed in another tool? If you do not have an ALM process, is it something you are planning to add in the future? Let's start a discussion and share your thoughts below!73Views0likes0CommentsApril App Builders Qrew Recap and Upcoming Agenda for May
Hello App Builders! Thank you to all who were able to attend Wednesday’s App Builder Qrew Meet Up. Here’s what we discussed: User-Focused Technique for Flexible Data Management Mark Shneir shared a user-focused approach that lets users quickly add child records to a parent, filter and view data in reports, and temporarily link unrelated tables using a “wildcard” user focus table. This technique streamlines data management and enhances the user experience, and it’s one that he uses with clients at least twice a month. Real-World Use Cases Mark also shared examples of how to quickly add team members or order items to projects, matching delivery truck requirements with team member skills, and efficiently associating orphan time records with invoices using his shared techniques. These scenarios demonstrate how it supports complex, multi-user workflows. Learning and Adoption While creating URL formula buttons can be a challenge, resources like an example app and community support make it easier to learn. The User Focus App in the Exchange by Mark Shnier is available for anyone to download and use as a cheat sheet to apply to your apps. You can access the app here or search “User Focus: in the exchange to find it. Missed the meeting?
