Change record selection from a record picker back to a dropdown.

We have a table that stores bar-codes.  We are then looking up these bar-codes onto different table. In this second table the bar-codes used to appear in a drop down menu. This worked great for our use case which was to scan in a bar-code while viewing a report in a grid edit mode and have QuickBase automatically pull up the bar code record.

After going past 1000 Barcode entries, QuickBase changed the record selection method to a record picker. Now the only way to select a barcode, is to hit the ? browse choices? option and go into a separate window and go to search field scan in the barcode, hit search and then select ok. That is a lot of clicks and really breaks the work flow we had setup.

Is there a way to change the record selection method back to a drop down? I see an option to change a drop down to a record picker but not that other way around.

  • Once you hit 1000 it will force the pop up Record Picker.
A solution is to make that be a Conditional drop down.  So the user would enter either a number from 0 to 9 and then see a list of bar codes beginning with that number (ie 1/10th of the 1000 records),  or if the bar codes have product names, then they could enter a-z and see, for example just the T's.
