Changing Field Properties Based on User Role

Is there a way to make the properties of a field different by user role? I don't want anyone but me to be able to "Display as a link to related record". Is this possible? --------------------------...

What I do in those situations is to make a second field. The second field will simply be say a formula text field equal to the real field. For the restricted users you will have a form rule that says to display the non-linked text version of the field (and hide the linked field) but for the higher level roles you will get the opposite effect, show linked and hide unlinked.

So the short answer is you need to have two different field so you can control their appearance using form rules.
