Field Display Issue

I have a scenario where i have 18 fields and i have to display one of them based on another field value in the record edit page for the user.
I have managed to work out the rest, but i am facing issue in display of it to user edit screen as the rest of the 17 fields which are not being displayed(intentionally) are occupying space and thus the alignment of the field being displayed is getting bad.
Is there a way that the fields which are not being displayed should not occupy space too ?
