Formula error: Expecting text but found number in numeric reference formula field

Question

I have a numeric reference field with the following formula:

[Pharmacy / Drug Shipping - Record ID#]

And I'm receiving an error with the entire formula underlined in red stating "Expecting text but found number". The number is correct; why is it expecting text?

Is your field type formula-numeric? Sounds like the error you would receive if the formula you have is text? Does wrapping it in a toText() resolve it?

If the formula does save OK&nbsp; and you are just referring to the yellow triangle warning in the formula editor, sometimes that formula editor is not 100% correct in its warnings, ie it may be a false alarm.
