# Formula to exclude calculation

Hi All,

I have two fields participants name and participants category. I need to count total of the participant but to exclude one of the participant categories, for example teacher category.

The table is as shown below

Participants name | Participants category

David                         | Teacher
Sam                            | Scholar

Rather than count total of 3 participants, because its excluded teacher category, the result will show total 2 participants.

Can you please explain to me available formula for this case?

Many Thanks

• You have not stated if you have any relationships.

But if you have a relationship where One Scheduled Course Class has Many Participants, you can make a Summary on that Relationship to count the number of Participants. but out a filter on that Summary field
where Category os not Teacher.

• Hi Mark,

Thank you for your direction. I can count participant using summary field with filtering category does not contain the value teacher
