I think that I did not really understand your question.
Are you saying that you start with a summary report and then type something into the search filter to get a reduced summary report and then you drill down, and your issue is that it is apply that search term to your results?
If so, of course that would be the expected behaviour.

No it can't. If you want to have an OR you can set up and <ask the user> filter on Summary report.
But also note that you may not know that if you enter a search term such as cats OR dogs, with the OR in upper case, then it will behave as an OR.
You can also use AND, and again it must be in upper case.
Maybe that tip helps in some way.
