Math and report

I am a mid level QB however, I am still trying to get comfortable with customized reports.
I need to add a turnaround report to the dashboard. I have the formula but I am not sure how to go about this??
(Number of separation /(total month FTE+Contractors))* 100
So the separation would be based on [status] "Inactive" on [termed date] of the current month.
The total month would be based on the total employees on [status] "active".
How do I do this as far as formula wise? Report Formula or Report Formula?
