Multi-Select Field Limitations

I'd like to know some updated recommendations on how to alternatively handle the 100 item limit for Multi-Select Fields. Have a child table for the parent record is not an ideal solution. 

Currently we've got about 126 options to select from, I have a separate table setup to get the results from. I have to be able to multi-select. Any suggestions, please be detailed.

    I have a method which allows the user to launch off a parent record to a report of all possible Children choices complete with any Dynamic filters as any table report would have.  The user would then click click click as fast as they like to select many children, and then when complete, they would click a link to get back to the Parent.  The parent would have all those chosen children listed.  The method will silently prevent duplicates being selected for the same parent and can include a Delete button to also quickly remove children.

    The Parent could then use a Combined Text Summary field which has the same appearance and behaviour in View mode as a multi select field, so show on the Parent record record the first 25 selected children choices.  ie this method will be limited to making at most 25 choices

    The method is all native, no javascript, but the setup is too complicated to explain the steps on this forum.  Please contact me directly if you would like this setup on a Go To Meeting screen sharing session.  It usually takes about an hour to set this up.
