Multi-Select Users in Resource Allocation

I?m using the Resource Allocation report in a PMO application.
The Projects table is related to the Resource table, and the Resource Allocation report shows Resource records.

 

The Related Resource field is a user field. Now the team would like to be able to assign ?Additional Resources? via a multi-select user field. I?d like to be able to use the Resource Allocation report for these users too.

 

This is what I would like to do, but I'm pretty sure I can't ? create another resources to projects relationship. Carry over the multi-select user field. Assign the multiple users to projects. Be able to use the Resource Allocation report with the multi-select users parsed out as individual rows.

Any ideas?

    Multi-select User fields wont work for what you need here.

    I'd recommend creating a joined table.

    You can call it 'resource allocations or assignments' 
    Then use the regular user dropdown, but it will be in an editable child table.  It will give the user a nearly identical experience, but it will separate all the records out to their own.  

    This will give you much better reporting and tracking for your resources and projects.
