Notification and Automation issue

I am trying to send a notification email when a checkbox is checked as suggested in this post.  The current process, a user checks a checkbox which triggers an automation that will check a second checkbox which triggers the notification email.  All of this appears to work, but the user is not getting the emails.  Instead they are coming to me.  I tracked the issue down while working with another user this morning.  When the user checks the first checkbox, they are listed as the Last Modified by" user.  But when the automation runs, I am listed as the last modified by user because I am the owner of the automation.  The notifications are sent to the Last Modified by user, so I end up with all of the notification emails.

What is the best way to resolve this?
