notifications to external (i.e. open permissions)

I set up a notification for an external recipient (open permission) but am being blocked.  
Is there a setting I'm missing?

    Contact Customer care and ask to have your Realm opened up to send external emails.  They default Realms to not be able to send externally as a precaution, I suppose, of confidential info being wrongly mailed to outsiders.
