Read Only fields can't be hidden/

I just found that I cannot use dynamic form rules to hide a read only field. Is that anticipated behavior, and if so, is there a work around?

*Edit: Looks like it is only true for related fields. I suppose I can make a formula field to mirror the field as a work around.
