Report that omits duplicates

Greetings,

I've set up our QB to track bids to General Contractors and who at the GC we are dealing with for that particular bid.
We did some joins to achieve this and each Bid can have multiple people attached to it.

Example:
Bid flooring job to GC Bob, Inc.
Dealing with : Bob as CEO, Jim as Project Manager and Dave as Sr. Estimator.

When I run a report on all bids to GC Bob, Inc. I get back 3 results even though we only bid the one project.

Can I run a report and have it count only one instance of this?

Thanks for the help!

  • John,

You can but it will depend on how you built the application and where you then build the report,   Here is a potential architecture for Customers, Jobs and Contacts

In this case your Job has many Job Contacts from the list of available Customer Contacts or from your Employees table.   The secret now is to know where to build the report for the information you are trying to gather.

A report on Project Managers needs to include the Role information so you would build it in the Job Contacts table.    A report about a Job Revenue or Close Dates would most likely be constructed in the Jobs table.

    This should eliminate your duplicates.
