5 years agonp, just make a skinny report with just a button to [View Record] and put the report itself on the dashboard. Make sure that it's jammed up against other Home Page elements to keep the report skinny.

Thanks Mark. That was the only way I could think of, but I was hoping to be able to add a button to an existing column of buttons.
I know that when you drilldown, it takes you to the drill down report *but* if you only have one record, it takes you to that record. I'm wondering if that if I can replicate that in a report URL formula some how?

I don't understand the question. Just make a URL formula button to display the record and that should be the only thing on the report.

This particular use case required the PTO access, but you could just as easily set the button to open their Employee record.

Mark - what I was getting at was hoping I could utilize the button bar, so I could add 'My Employee Record' to an existing button bar, rather than using a new home page element. The only way I could see utilizing the button bar is if there was a way to set a custom url to the report, and somehow mimic the behavior of drilldown reports (drilldown reports link to a report if there are multiple records, but go directly to the record if there is only a single option).

The application I plan on using to help illustrate some Form design concepts is called "Headcount" and is designed to track employee work schedules along with PTO. Built in to the app is the ability for employees to request PTO for manager approval. Most importantly - it addresses what you initially asked about, which is how to design a Home page that is specific to the user that is logged in.
Imagine an employee logging in and immediately seeing their user record and being able to navigate that record all from the home page.
Imagine the manager being able to see his/her record, but also the records of direct reports.
If all goes according to plan- this app will be made available in The App Exchange.
