When does this line show and when does it not?

I have numerous multiple choice fields that are logged. They are also read only (filled in using button pushes). In edit mode, see picture below. One multiple choice field shows a line, the others do...

It may be a rich text field that has "show" conditions that are not being met, causing the gray area. He's an example of an a rich text button field on a form

    Thanks! GOod guess, but unfortunately this is not a rich text field. It is a logged multiple choice field. Very strange behavior. I think it may be some GUI glitch as to how it is placed in the form, but I am yet to replicate or figure it out.
