- BrianCafferelli8 years agoQuickbase StaffHi, I just wanted to clarify that we've been extensively testing MapBox and last night's patch released the feature to our live environment, but in a disabled state. This enables us to do a final round of testing. We'll be enabling it for everyone in the next release, on 09/17.
- BullseyeBullsey8 years agoQrew CadetHi Brian, thank you for responding. Yes, we are aware that this is just for testing now; the issue here is that there is going to be a major, seemingly random change. I'm sure QB has a good reason for it, but this has implications from those of us who just "point and click" without code to those who utilize more complex codes/scripts.
Again, per my questions above, how will this update affect us if we rely on the quick link to Google Maps for our daily workflow?
As noted in this thread, there are concerns on how this drastic change will affect users who are tapped into Google for things other than just looking at the map.
I appreciate your insight. - MichaelBarrow8 years agoQrew CadetThanks Brian! We appreciate the insight.
- QuickBaseCoachD8 years agoQrew CaptainI was able to test and it allayed my fears greatly when I saw that the address link still links off exactly the same to the familiar google maps, so I don't think that anything is lost on this change.
Plus there are improvements for the mobile interface for integration with the device's default Maps app and also auto fill of the current location of the device into the address input fields. - BrianCafferelli8 years agoQuickbase StaffHi Caitlyn, per QuickBaseCoach's comment above, links that open Google Maps in these places will continue to do so after the change. This is because those are simple links and don't establish a connected between QB and GMaps:
- On the mobile QB site, when looking at a form that includes an address field, we offer a Locate button. Rather than display the map in the QB app itself, the Locate button opens the default mapping app on the mobile device.
- When you are on a form and click the link for an address, a new tab opens showing the location in Google Maps.
- When clicking on a pin for a map report, a Get Directions link opens Google Maps in a new tab with the destination set with the pins location.
