Currency (summary) Relationship

I have a Currency (summary) field from a relationship I am trying to use in a Numeric Formula, the problem is when I use the Currency (summary) field in the formula the values disappears but as soon as I remove the field from the formula the values come back. Any ideas what could be going wrong?
