Duration and date timer that automatically pauses

Hello all, I have two overdue date fields, one is 30 days and the other 10. Then I have two duration fields that say how many days till overdue. I need this date field to pause its countdown to Overdue when my status changes. I tried setting up a scheduled automation but it wont subtract one from the date field only when in the correct status, actually it wont do anything but write -1 to my duration field.

    Can you post complete info on what you have so far? Field types and definitions, formulas you've got, and the automation setup you've got in place?

    It sounds like 'pause countdown in date field' might not be the right way to approach this task but your current setup isn't really clear from the language in your post, which makes it very hard to work out a solution.
