Changing Key fields

I had to change the key field in a parent table (Customers).  I first made sure the new field was a copy of the record ID (for now) and then changed the Key field.  QB gave me a bunch of warnings before I did it, but I practiced in a copy of the app first.  Afterwards, all of the links worked, but where before I could select a new customer for a project from a reference field (customer name) now it says that field can not be edited.  I can work around this by changing the Customer Name field to the Related Customer and proxying the Customer name, but I would rather like to fix the relationship, if possible.

Thanks

  • You should be able to go to the relationship and edit the reference field (the field at the top right) and set a "Proxy" for that field to be the customer name field.  Then make sure the Customer name field is on the form and the reference field perhaps called [Related Customer] is not on the form.
