drag and drop files to attachment fields

Can i achieve 'drag & Drop' functionality in a Quickbase form, which has attachment field. My users find it difficult to browse to files which are lying in their emails which the browse functionality can't reach.

Drag and Drop will help them to overcome this issue, otherwise they have to save file to local drive and then browse and reach the file.

  • You won't able to get this type of functionality with native quickbase.

An alternative...Since the file is already in an email, froward that email to files@qbtext.com and it will insert a record into quickbase with the file in a file attachment field. Its not drag and drop but it does help with the work flow you mentioned. This can also be designed to edit an existing record instead of inserting a new one.

here is the demo app that the files are designed to go to right now when sent to this email address.

this can be reconfigured to integrate with your quickbase application.

  • that's interestig. But how will it know the database name, table and field name (in case more than one) and more importantly a record id (which record it should attached it?). I don't want it to be a new record.
  • good questions...we design it to work with your app and table.
We have a few clients not that need us to update instead of insert.  The email users include the record id# in the subject of the email message, we find the record and update the file attachment field.  Works fine for them.
We have other clients that have info in the actual file name that helps us find the right record to update.  We could design a custom process for you using one of these methods or some other method that makes sense for you.
  • Hi Keith, I am looking for something which i can do on my own rather than custom develop it. Any help would be appreciated.
  • unfortunately, it will need to be custom, whether you do it your self or have someone else do it.  Start by researching the api, you can decide which programming language works best for you based on your technical experience and then start developing.  Good luck!

  • I would also like to see a "Drag and Drop" function to quickly add attachments to Records. Our company has just started using Quickbase, but we have a very experienced Power User here to guide us. Having the ability to drag and drop from Windows would be very beneficial and would save a lot of time. Please add this functionality and thank you.
