Help Creating a Summary Field

Question

I've bee struggling this morning and I'm sure I'm making things more complicated than necessary. I have a table of tickets and I'm trying to create a summary field that will show the count of the number of tickets for each date. Will someone please point me in the right direction?

Do you need a Summary report or a Summary field. If a summary field, what is the Parent record. or are you looking to have a table of all dates and then a summary field on that table?

I need a summary field for the number of tickets created on a given day. There are a few options, but I guess the easiest would be to use the ticket number. I am not sure if this is the reason the process isn't working, but the ticket number is the key and is a lookup field. I am trying to do something similar to what you suggested in a previous answer to this post. I have a table with the tickets and a days table with an automation to add the current date each day (I am not concerned about back dating the process since this part of the app is not live yet). But I am not getting the relationship or your suggested snapshot working at the moment. I need a few breadcrumbs to get this working.

To play the devil's advocate, why not just make a summary report of the # of tickets and group by day. ie why do you think you need a "field"?
