I would first determine what structure your application will take. This will give you an idea of how you need to break up the data. Once you've done that, I can't imagine that you would be near the 500MB per table.

To echo what Blake said above, note that in Quick Base formula fields, look up fields, and summary fields, do not count for space.
What Blake is saying is that much of the data is probably repetitive. For example if it was a dump of sales data and had a bunch of fields for customer information such as their name address phone number etc., those would all be look up fields in a properly structured QuickBase app.
