Current User issue

Is there a reason why the "current user" criteria doesn't work for certain users.

For example I have a report that shows values based on the current user thats logged in. However for certain users the values do not populate when I choose current user as the reporting criteria - when I explicitly pick them from the reporting criteria that is the only time the data populates.

For example: if "user field" = "user a"  data populates
if "user field" = "current user" no data populates

Has anyone else ever had this issue?

  • If you are using the Test as a User feature; and get no data visible in the field; there's a permissions issue for the data derived by that User or User's Role.  Check that the source-fields are visible to that User's Role.  If they can see the field/column in the report then the issue isn't whether they can see the field itself; it's the derived output.  Remember also when you are logged in and the criteria is "User Field"="Current User" - YOU are the current User; so the output you see might be different to the output someone else sees depending on permissions of source data or formula criteria.  Make sure to test "as the User" to see the output for someone else, even if the report criteria is "User Field" = Current User; or if it is a role-based issue; setup a separate login and assign your other login to the same Role and see what results you get in the report.
