How to calculate run time from hour meter reading
I own a small utility company and have several operators check in plants. They record the day's meter readings (cumulative hour meters and water meters) in QuickBase. I need to calculate run time based on the previous reading compared to the current reading. I have dozens of facilities, hundreds of meters to read and thousands of reads. Tables: Facilities, Equipment, Reads. The readings are taken on random dates (no defined interval). I have the read table related to itself so that the previous read can be "selected". This has been working but I would like to be able to import a list of reads but I don't know how to populate the record ID required for finding the "previous" read. I think I'm looking for a way to dynamically/logically calculate the key field.650Views1like6CommentsNew Calendar Behavior Changes
Hey Quick Base Community, As you may know, we have new calendar reports coming in the next release on February 25th. You may not know that our old calendar reports were built years ago before web-based calendaring was common, and as such, include some idiosyncratic behaviors about how data is displayed. With our new calendars, we had the chance make our calendars function more as our users expect a calendar to behave. We wanted to have the new calendar reports function more like Outlook, Google Calendar or Apple Calendar. The changes we're making will also be included in our release notes and have been generally well received in our early access program, but I wanted to preview these changes for our wider Quick Base community a little earlier on. Without further ado, here are some of the changes and potential issues: Calendars respect the "First day of week setting" You may or may not be aware, but Quick Base apps include a setting under App Properties to set the first day of the week. Currently, this setting is primarily used for Work Date formulas and calendars don't respect it at all. The app-wide setting defaults to Sunday, but can be set to any other day of the week. New calendars will display with this value set as the first day of the week If you have set a first day of week other than Sunday, your calendars will change how they display. Additionally, you can customize the first day of week on a per report basis, and have a different first day of week on every calendar report you create. Event Colorization* and Divs/Spans Old calendars don't support colored events natively. There's a fairly common workaround of creating a Formula Rich Text Field (n?e Formula Text with HTML enabled) and embedding a div or span element with a colorized background, then sticking the text to display for the event inside the div or span. On new calendars, we're enabling users to use a formula to define colors for the entire event. If a div or span is selected as the second or third field, it may not display on the new calendar. Adding Records In old calendars, users with create permissions could click a green plus icon to add a record. We?ve changed this behavior to double-clicking in the white space of any date or date/time area. This will create an event with start date and/or time pre-set on the record. Display events as Text Only* Our old calendars included the option to display an event as text only, instead of linking to the view or edit form. We've removed this option as it created a confusing experience for end users. If your calendars are set to use ?view as text only? events, events will display as a link to the view record form. Events ending at Midnight On old calendars, if an event started on February 9th at 9am and ended on February 12th at 12:00 Midnight, on the month view of the calendar, we would show an event going from February 9th-12th inclusive. New calendars will show that event from Feb 9th-11th. Work Dates and Weekends For old calendars based on a work date field, if an event spanned from Friday to Monday, the event would be displayed as two events, one on Friday, one on Monday. On new calendars, the event will display as a continuous event from Friday to Monday. Old Calendars on Old Homepages In 2013 we released a new Homepage style, with far more layout options and an easier builder experience. A small number of users still use the old dashboards. Our new calendars do not display on the old dashboards. We have chosen not to put the development time into making them backward compatible, and instead will be starting an in product messaging campaign in the near future to let users know that calendars on old dashboards will not work after the February 25th release. To fix this issue, app builders can rebuild their dashboards in the new homepage builder. Check out this video to see how: https://quickbase.wistia.com/medias/xsna4b1chz Addendum: Three more changes: Emails Subscriptions and Emailed Calendar Reports now will send a table report of the events currently visible to the user. We believe this will be more usable in the context of an email client. Simplification of Settings: Maximum Number of Events Per Day Removed* - We will be removing this setting, as our month view will now expand each row to show all events, and it doesn't make sense to display on our week or day views. Hide Weekends* - New calendars will not support the ability to hide weekends on the calendar view. I'm really excited to share these new calendars with you all and hope to hear lots of feedback from you and your teams over the coming weeks as we roll out these new calendars. If you'd like to preview a subset of the functionality, have your realm administrator open a support case requesting early access to the Calendar feature. * This change is not present in the early access version of new calendars currently available. I want to queried all data from a table/report to save it into a local database. I've tried to export it into CSV format, however, got the problem as attached image. Please suggest ways to overcome it with: no filter applied one extracted data file only (like a svn dump file) I've read QB HTTP API and wonder if it can help to over come the "too large" issue?600Views0likes9CommentsAutomatic export from QuickBase into Excel
Hello! There are a few parts to this project I'm trying to complete. First, I have specific filtered table reports I've created in QuickBase in multiple different tables. I'd like to automatically export the filtered reports into specific Excel sheets in a workbook. For example, I have a table called "Clients" where I've created the report, "Active Clients". I also have an Excel Workbook called "Fact Sheets" with multiple different tabs (sheets). One of the worksheets is called "Clients". I want to export my Active Clients report into the Clients worksheet. Is this possible? I've been trying to read up on the API guide (https://www.quickbase.com/api-guide/index.html) but it doesn't sound exactly like what I'm looking for.600Views0likes13CommentsPossible to download a report as a csv (or xls) with a button push?
I have a button that allows a user to open a report, and then if they want save as spreadsheet. Is there any way the button can download the report as a spreadsheet automatically? ie, skip the go the the report stage? Essentially, I want my users to be able to download a template, but this template isnt static. It may change periodically based on data in the system, so I can't simply upload a template file. Also, I want the user to get the template on demand, so I can't set it up as a subscription. I'm using a data connection ("From the web") in Excel to automatically download the data that I need from QuickBase. The only issue I'm facing now is that from time to time my data connection seems to "forget" my QuickBase credentials and the data download fails, until I go into Connection Properties and click on "Edit Query". When I do this, Excel attempts to open the QuickBase report in a browser window within the Edit Query dialog box and asks me to enter my QuickBase credentials. Once I re-enter my credentials, the data download executes successfully. I've attached a screenshot of the Edit Query dialog box. I don't want to have to do this every time. Is there a way to store the credentials within the connection string? Thanks in advance. Juan523Views2likes12CommentsHow to Adjust Column Width in Dashboard Reports?
Cannot seem to find a way to change the WIDTH of columns in my dashboard report that lists open projects. Would like to resize them; tried dragging the borders (e.g. Excel), looking at column properties, field properties, report settings, "customize this page," Help, etc. I must just be missing it somewhere!517Views1like7CommentsExporting QR Codes in bulk for label making and inventory
Hello All, I use quickbase to keep track of industrial equipment as well as inspect and keep records of said equipment. Each piece of equipment has QR code linked to it directly in quickbase. I am trying to export both the data and the images so II can print them out with a Brady labeler. My issue right now is the only file format offered is CSV which does support images. I am curious if anyone else has run into this issue and has a solution. ------------------------------ Phil Heron ------------------------------512Views0likes8CommentsNEED TO MANIPULATE CSV FILE PRIOR TO IMPORT
Hope dandiebolt wins the Hawaii trip. Maybe next one to Brazil. Think I am one of the few Brazilian happy quickbase customers.... My company imports 4 CSV files, regularly (Daily basis) to One table. We have to import to excel, format columns (Brazil uses Date format DDMMYYYY, and NUMBER 123.456,78), Add one column to create a [UNIQUE] field, add one column to create a [Related other table field], rename de headings, export to CSV, import to quick base. Time consuming and prone to errors (a lot), though easy to detect and reimport. One CSV, is comma separated, other is tab separated and two are ?;? separated Information is similar, but Headings are different (one of them has no headings), some have extra information that is not needed, one uses decimal numbers using ?,? the others use ?.?. Implemented successfully dandiebolt idea: HTML5 file reader, Parse with d3 which creates an Object :csv , Do a map of csv, which creates an ARRAY?? Csv_Blob, that can be imported using the API_ImportFromCSV. Now I am trying to learn: How to manipulate CSV_Blob (Array), prior to importing, or csv (OBJECT) prior to _map. Seems that underscore library has powerful tools to do that. It must be simple if you understand (which I am trying) arrays, objects, propriety?s, strings etc., cause from what I have read underscores deals directly with this creepy things. What I have accomplished (more o less) 1. - I can parse the file reader output with D3.js selecting different separators (tab, ?,?, ?;? other). That?s fine!! 2. - D3.js can manipulate date and number formats of the propriety?s of each objet. I was not able to correctly format Number 123456.00 to 123.456,00 and Date YYYYMMDD to DDMMYYYY (something related to iso xx which seems I have to buy to now the correct code). What I did is transform the data directly in quick base (creating a formula text, and a formula number to cover all possibilities). It is working. What I have not (still studying) and wishing some hints to make easier my process 1.- Create two new columns (Excel way). Think this can be done in csv object prior to map, or in csv_blob Array prior to importing. My understanding is I need to create 2 new propriety?s, in all the Objects included in the csv_blob array. Must be a direct underscore snippet that I haven?t found or understand. Lets say: Before [{Name: xx, Phone: 123}, {Name: yy, Phone: 456}......] After [[{Name: xx, Phone: 123, Newcol1: to_be 1, Newcol2: to_be 2}, {Name: yy, Phone: 456, Newcol1: to_be 1.1, Newcol2: to_be 2.1 }...] 2.- Automatically fill the values side of that propriety?s across the entire ARRAY, with two rules: Rule number one: New propriety must be a string resulting of concatenating two other propriety?s: Lets say [{Name: xx, Phone: 123, Newcol1: ?xx?+?123?}, {[{Name: yy, Phone: 456, Newcol1: ?yy?+?456?}...] This creates a UNIQUE field in my configuration, and avoids duplicate records Rule number two: Upon selection of a Button (think there are some ideas of how to do that in the community), some variable takes a value var Button. This value must go in all objects of the array in the newly created propriety Lets say say [{Name: xx, Phone: 123, Newcol1: ?xx?+?123?, Newcol2: var button}, {[{Name: yy, Phone: 456, Newcol1: ?yy?+?456?, Newcol2: var button}...] 3.- Thus there are different rules and different type of csv files I must implement a kind of button selection (do this or do that). What I am using now is have the snippets in different quick base code pages, and create a dashboard, with web url to those pages for simplicity. Long question (sorry) Appreciate some guidance400Views1like37Comments
