How do I prevent Grid Edit from appearing in the Page Report Widget?


I have attempted to create a specific form for the report overriding role settings and set up the table only allow grid edit for the role when using the other form. I set up the report to not allow editing from the report. Still the little menu for the widget allows grid editing and seems to override all my attempts to prevent this.

Please help...

The setting of whether to allow records to be edited is unrelated to Grid Edit capability. To control Grid Edit, make a dummy form called perhaps "Prevent Grid Edit". it does not need to have any fields. Then now that you have more than one form, there will be a forms usage section open up below the forms. You can set which roles and which reports should allow Grid edit and if you want to force a form (i.e. a list of fields) to use for Grid edit.

Hi Mark,
I really appreciate your feedback! As mentioned above and in my screenshot, I did create a separate form called "Facilities Dashboard." Then, as you mentioned, in the "Override role settings by report" section below the forms I set it to <Disable> Grid Edit when using my report which is called "Current Deployment Summary." I went one step further in the "Set how different roles use these forms" section by forcing the role Viewer to only allow Grid Edit when using another form called "Facilities Main Form." In a normal view of this report, Grid Edit is not available, however, when using the new homepage widgets, if I choose a "Report or Chart" widget there is a little drop down menu in the upper left corner.  This drop down offers the option of Grid Edit.  This appears to override any role based or report based settings.

Is there a way to turn off Grid Edit from the home page Report or Chart Widget settings?

I think that you have discovered a bug.
If you go to the Role setting and for a Role set the Grid edit to disable, then it should block Grid Edit.  But the pop up from a dashboard Report does not respect that setting.  or if you have set that report to not allow Grid edit .. it should block.  But it does not.

The work-a-round for now is to create a dummy form called Dummy form to block Grid edit, and put no fields on it.  Then set the Role that you want to block from Grid edit (or the report) to use the dummy form.  The user will be able to get into Grid edit but it will be an unsatisfying experience as there will be no fields to edit.

I reported this as a bug just now and will post back if they confirm its a bug or hopefully a known bug already in Queue to be fixed.

Thank you for reporting the bug! I am sorry to say that the suggested work around does not work. In regular report views, using a form with no fields and overriding role settings to force using this form will produce a grid edit view with no fields, however, the page report widget still shows the Grid Edit selection and full Grid Edit access.  I attempted this at the administrator level of access with both report specific and role specific overrides. No joy!  This would not meet my needs anyway as I need Grid Edit mode available to some roles that I am using, but I need to prevent Grid Edit on the homepage as I want to share with viewers in roles that do not need edit access.  Thank you again for your suggestions!
